Hoddesdon & Broxbourne

Hertford Through Time.

For the last 9 months we've been working in partnership with Hertford Museum and local history experts Councillor Peter Ruffles and Jean Purkis to produce a major new history book Hertford Through Time published on 11th September, with all royalties going to Hertford Museum. The book costs £14.99 and features 180 'then and now' photographs: the period black and white photos, mostly sourced from Hertford Museum's archive, are set alongside colour photographs showing the same location today. There is an official signing at Hertford Museum on Sat 9th October 11am and the authors will also be giving a talk at The Friends Meeting House in Hertford on Tues 15th Nov 8pm – tickets cost £5 and can be purchased at Hertford Museum. We offer a FREE delivery service for Hertford customers – simply order the book from our shop on 01992 442290 paying by card when ordering and then collect from Hertfordshire Graphics at 6, St Andrew Street. The book can also be purchased from Hertford Museum or Hertford Tourist Office.

Hoddesdon & Broxbourne

One of our main areas of specialism is local interest

We cater for the many people interested in the rich history and heritage of our local area and the County of Hertfordshire in a number of different ways.

Hoddesdon & BroxbourneWe aim to stock all titles which are currently in print relating to Hoddesdon, Hertford, Ware and other towns and villages in Broxbourne and East Herts. We also carry books on Hertfordshire, the Lea Valley area and nearby Enfield. A number of these titles have been self-published locally and therefore are not available online or via chain booksellers. Browse some of the specific titles we hold. In addition to new books we offer a range of second hand titles about our County and the places in it, plus a second hand search and ordering service to track down any specific local titles which are no longer in print.

Hoddesdon & Broxbourne Through TimeIn 2010 we brokered a unique collaboration between ourselves, Lowewood Museum and local historians: Sue Garside and David Dent to get Hoddesdon and Broxbourne Through Time commissioned and published by Amberley. The first major new local history book for almost a decade contains 180 photographs, half of which are old photographs mainly from Lowewood Museum’s collection reproduced in a rich sepia and set alongside contemporary full colour photographs taken by Stephen Poulter, co-owner of books @ Hoddesdon, which illustrate the same scenes today. The book has been our best-selling title ever, and is available to purchase at the shop for £14.99. To order your copy by post for UK delivery (plus £3.00 p&p charge) phone us on 01992 442290 during opening hours.

Having come up with the original idea of running a Hoddesdon Heritage Weekend, we formed a partnership with Broxbourne Arts Forum to organise the festival to co-incide with St George’s Day in April 2010 featuring ten events including a special Meet The Author session featuring Dr Nick Barrett from the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are television series.

Who Lies Beneath.

This was such a success that we ran an expanded programme for this year's Hoddesdon Heritage Weekend combined with Broxbourne Council's annual May Day celebrations on the first May Bank Holiday of 2011. Our contribution was a talk by local author Margaret Ward about her new book Hertfordshire: Who Lies Beneath.
